Kree Harrison’s Moving Original Song Tribute to Her Late Parents
With two-hours for each of the four American Idol 2013 Las Vegas shows and only one song per hopeful, we knew we’d be in for some backstories on these singers. As always with American Idol, many of these featured a history of hardship and heartache for the featured singer. The moving story of Kree Harrison was one that especially brought tears to our eyes.
American Idol addressed Kree’s tragic life tale briefly, but we uncovered a bit more. Her dad reportedly died in a plane crash when Kree was 12, while her mother died in a car accident four years later when the country singer was only 16.
The singer was also signed to Lyric Street Records when she was 12 years old, but “didn’t want to become another Disney act.” It’s a bold move, but with the high praise she received from the American Idol judges on Wednesday, it looks like it could pay off for the talented singer.
We also found this YouTube video, featuring an extremely moving song Kree wrote about her deceased parents, with photos to coincide that feature her mom, dad, and three siblings. The video for the song, “You Would’ve Wanted It That Way,” is a must-watch, but grab a box of tissues. With lyrics like, “I do my best to keep you around this place because I know you would have wanted it that way,” and updates on how each child is doing, you’re going to need ‘em.
What do you think of Kree? Does she have what it takes to be the next American Idol winner?
