Chris Pine Pranks Benedict Cumberbatch on Star Trek Set!
Benedict Cumberbatch takes his job seriously. A little too seriously, if you ask Chris Pine.
On the set of the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, in which both actors star, British-born Benedict admits he took the idea of being in space a little bit too far.
While working with Chris, who starred as Captain Kirk in the first J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek movie, Benedict admits that he was eager to learn the tricks of the trade, and that Chris was happy to dish them out.
“We were in a really futuristic laboratory with lasers that were trying to split a target smaller than a human hair to create a continual form of energy," Benedict revealed on the UK’s Graham Norton Show. "And I was like, 'Wow, this is the real deal, what can't we touch? What's safe?'"
Sensing an opportunity for mischief, Chris took it upon himself to “protect” his co-star.
"I got on set and was told I needed to wear 'neutron cream' to protect me,” revealed Benedict. "I was gullible and did what I was told. It's America and there is a lot of health and safety!"
"And we told him he had to apply the cream in dots all over his face and there he was doing this really intense scene with sunscreen spots all over him," added Pine.
"I should have known," said Benedict, laughing. "They had me, completely had me. It was really very funny."
