The Voice 2013’s Carson Daly Calls Usher’s Coaching the “Best We’ve Ever Had” — Exclusive

After May 8’s first live results show on The Voice 2013, we lost four talented artists, bringing the talent pool down to 12. Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with host Carson Daly at the Top 12 Party at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif. following the show where he dished about the remaining contestants and this season’s coaches.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What do you think of this season of The Voice as compared to previous seasons? How is the talent this year?

Carson Daly: I feel like it's pretty good, pretty strong … stronger than probably any other season. I think for anybody that thought there was a frontrunner, there’s moments that they see another artist come up and step up to the plate and all of a sudden knock it out like Sasha Allen did with “Oh! Darling” and Danielle Bradbery, who is like No. 4 on iTunes and continues to just collect amateur singers that are trying to make it.

It’s still an anything goes situation with the Top 12.

Yeah it’s crazy. We’ve got a great Top 12 and it will be hard to whittle down from now. Anytime good singers leave, it’s always like, “Wait! Why are they going? They need to stick around…” but obviously it’s a TV show too.

What’s it like working with Shakira and Usher instead of Cee Lo and Christina?

It’s great! It was great to see Cee Lo tonight. He is family. We started this journey together, and it’s like we never missed a beat. Usher, his coaching style … putting a mirror in front of Michelle Chamuel before she sang “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper … the push ups, the fight for the mic. His coaching techniques have been the best of any coach we’ve ever had. He also discovered Justin Bieber and that’s part of the model that The Voice is about so he’s been an amazing edition as has Shakira who is awesome.

Is there one coach’s team at this point in the game that you think is the better team?

Well Adam has the favorite, but I wouldn’t go by that. You look at the playoffs in NBA … Russell Westbrook came up … limped down the stretch. Kobe Bryant did. We’ve seen that happen with vocal chords and with the strain of the show. We’ve seen frontrunners down the stretch wither and so whoever your favorite is right now, hope that they are resilient because resiliency is a big part of being a star.
