Pretty Little Liars in Ravenswood — What Do These Creepy Set Photos Tell Us?

We’re starting to get our first real glimpses of the Ravenswood set, home of the Pretty Little Liars spin-off set to premiere in October. What do these snapshots tells us about this mysterious town that has been cursed for generations?

Spoby in Ravenswood

Though it is Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) who will be making the permanent move to the PLL spin-off, Toby (Keegan Allen) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) will be taking a trip to the nearby Pennsylvania town, as well. Keegan and Troian snapped many a pic around the Ravenswood set. Among their subjects: a shop window with what looks like a baby carriage, an old-timey shot of ravens and a stone angel, a classy old-school car hood ornament, and a Mary statue complete with candle vigil. The collection of images lends a creepily nostalgic feel to the town. This is a place trapped in the past (hopefully not literally), which makes sense for a series in which the five main characters will be exploring the town’s history in an attempt to stop the curse. And, is it just us, or are those stone statues a little too reminiscent of the spooky Weeping Angels of Doctor Who fame?

Twitter Excitement

Elsewhere in the Twitter-sphere, Ravenswood/PLL crew members were snapping their own shots of the town of Ravenswood. Showrunner Marlene King tweeted a pic of this hanging street lamp, also giving off a historical vibe, while director Wendy Stanzler tweeted this picof Ravenswood that gives a sweeping shot of the town’s locale.

Writer/script coordinator Lilah Barasz shared a picture of a raven that stopped by the Ravenswood set, along with the line, “What does it mean when you see an actual raven on set while shooting in #Ravenswood?!” Ravens seem to play a large part in the mythology of Ravenswood. When we cross-reference “raven” and “creepy” in our brains, we get the Edgar Allan Poe poem entitled, “The Raven.” The work tells the story of a talking raven (well, with a one-word vocabulary) that visits a heartbroken man as he descends into madness. Hopefully, Caleb will not be playing the “heartbroken man” character in this scenario.
