Glee Actress Leaving the Show To Star in an ABC Comedy — UPDATE

UPDATE: TV Guide reports that ABC has picked up Mixology. Sugar really is gone!

Here’s some casting news that certainly feels bittersweet: Sugar (Vanessa Lengies) is leaving Glee for good.

You heard that right. Actress Vanessa Lengies has scored the starring female role in ABC’s new comedy pilot, Mixology, and there’s no way she can keep doing both shows.

Set at a Manhattan bar, Mixology follows five single guys and five single girls who are looking for love. Deadline reports that Vanessa will play the lead female character, Kacey, a personal trainer by day and waitress by night who is described as having an “incredibly upbeat outlook on life.”

Touch’s Adam Campbell and Up All Night’s Craig Frank are two of the male stars also joining the cast.

Glee’s behind the scenes video guru Kalen G tweeted the news, writing, “@littlelengies Congrats on "Mixology." So happy for you but so sad for me if I don't get to see your beautiful smiling face at glee. xoxo”

We’re sad to see Sugar — and all her crazy antics — off the show, but also super excited that Vanessa is getting such a major role in a network pilot. Best of luck to the cast of Mixology. Hopefully the pilot will get picked up for a full season!
