Mother's Day is here, and chances are you couldn't be more excited about spending time with your family, getting pampered by your hubby, and being treated like a queen by your kiddos. But in order to have a truly perfect Mother's Day, there are certain rules and regulations you have to live by.
Check out our list of 5 things NOT to do on Mother's Day, then sit back, relax, and enjoy the best 24 hours of your year!
1. Stay away from your computer.
We know how tempting it is to log onto your computer and dive into a sea of work emails, but ladies: Resist the urge. Mother's Day is your one chance to take a true break from the stresses of the interwebs so you can relax with your family –– away from your nagging responsibilities. In fact, we'd go so far as to suggest that you stay away from all screens, including your ever-dependable cell phone and television. A fabulous day of face-to-face time with your loved ones is all you need — unless you're online shopping, which is obviously the exception to this rule. Shoes > Mother's Day.
2. Don't even think about cleaning the house.
You finally have a day off, but that pile of dirty dishes is calling your name. So, what do you do? Resist their siren song, that's what! Oh, and don't even think about touching the vacuum cleaner, no matter how messy your kiddo's bedroom is. Instead, treat yourself to a long nap and tell your family to clean up the mess as a Mother's Day present! You know, along with breakfast in bed, a bouquet of flowers, chocolate, and preferably a piece of diamond jewelry.
3. The kitchen is off limits.
Chances are you're going to wake up to a hungry family who want nothing more than your signature weekend pancakes. Nope, nope, nope. Mother's Day is the one time of year when you can expect your adoring whack pack of loved ones to wait on you hand and foot –– which most definitely includes breakfast in bed! Plus, there's nothing cuter than young children trying to make their parents a meal. Sure, your eggs might have a few shells in them, but it's the thought that counts!
4. Don't stay indoors.
Mother's Day just happens to fall during the most gorgeous time of year, and we recommend that you take full advantage of the glorious weather by getting out of the house! Turn off the TV and take your family to the park for a simple picnic, or hit up your town's local botanical gardens to take advantage of Mother Nature. Get it? Mother Nature? Mother's Day jokes never get old!
5. Stay away from the scale.
Chances are you're trying to get in shape for bikini season (it's just around the corner... the horror!), but Mother's Day isn't the time to watch your weight. However, it is the time to indulge in a bunch of sweet treats! Step off that scale, into some comfy sweats, and bid adieu to your diet –– after all, those pancakes and waffles aren't going to eat themselves...
