Dancing With The Stars

Zendaya and Val Underscored For Dancing With the Stars Semifinals Quickstep?

Trouble in paradise indeed...

Zendaya Coleman
& Valentin Chmerkovskiy were the only ones to have a perfect score going into the Dancing With the Stars Season 16 Week 9 Semifinals, but after Week 9's Round 1 they were one of only two couples to not have a perfect score. Zendaya & Val were given a 25 for their race car-themed Quickstep, just one point over Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson’s Samba. Everyone has an off week, but it's kind of bad timing to have it now, right before the Finals.

Bruno Tonioli said he saw what Zendaya was trying to do — the Quickstep was so fast and furious you could hardly breathe. But she lost her frame and footing a couple of times. Carrie Ann Inaba said, “That was kind of a mess.” She liked the concept but because of the start it lost its place. It felt like they were dragging each other through the dance. Len Goodman thought Z had good hold and frame, but the speed was so intense the style went out.

That music was so fast, it was hard for them to keep up. Do you think Z & V earned those two 8s and a 9? She had three 8s on Week 1 and 9s by Week 2, so this is very low for her. Yeah, a lot of people are upset that she got Hip Hop when she's been dancing in that style since she was 8, but do you think any of the high expectations creeped into the judging of the Quickstep? Harsh or just right?
