“I'm definitely going to miss being there every day,” said Meghan, “but it's for a good reason. I think Once is going to go for many seasons and I would love to guest star maybe once a year just to see what Ruby's up to.”
Apparently, Meghan started looking for another role when her presence on OUAT was diminished. Though she was the focal point of an early Season 2 ep, she hasn’t been seen much action since. She went to OUAT showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis to discuss her future on the show:
“I was under contract for Once, but there have been so many new characters this year that the storyline Eddy [Kitsis] and Adam wanted to do with Ruby ended up not being able to happen because they decided to take the show in a different way...So I talked to the boys and asked them, 'What's going on? Is everything okay?' And they said, 'We love you, but we have this story that's so huge we don't know where we're going to put you at this moment.' So I said, 'Maybe I should look elsewhere?'”
Meghan said they were very happy to hear that she had been cast as a series regular in another pilot, as were her castmates: “Everyone has been super supportive. I talked to Beverley Elliott [Granny], who was very upset and worried when she learned that I wasn't going to be in the finale. She emailed me to ask if I was okay.”
Aw. How much does it warm our hearts that Granny is checking in on Ruby in real life? Hopefully, these two will have a chance for an on-screen reunion somewhere down the road. Meghan said she hasn’t ruled out future OUAT appearances: “I'm a series regular on Intelligence, so we'll see what happens. And who knows what's happening with Once? I think everything is changing over there.”
We wish Meghan luck! We totally can’t blame her for leaving and, though we will miss her (and are mourning the death of our planned Whale/Ruby romance), we can’t wait to check out her new show.
