In Real Housewives of Orange County Season 8, Episode 8, Lydia invites her mom over to help with a photo album of her youngest son, 2-year-old Maverick. But conversation soon turns from baby pictures to Judy’s love of marijuana, which Lydia strongly disapproves of.
Lydia McLaughlin asks her mom pointe blank if she’s still smoking pot. "I’m not like a perfect human being, I have had a few human lapses,” Judy confesses. I do maybe occasionally have a puff. But never during the day, and never when I’m with the kids.”
Clearly upset now, Lydia expresses her disappointment and says all she can remember from her childhood is Judy smoking joints. “As a kid my household definitely felt out of control,” Lydia tells the camera. “It was nothing I could hide, that my mom smoked pot.”
Attempting to defuse things a bit, Lydia says she’s not judging her mother’s life choices, but Judy disagrees. "You’re telling me you want me to be a certain way, but that's not who I am,” Judy declares.
“I totally accept you for being crazy and off the wall and I love that about you,” explains Lydia. “But that’s of you and your soul and who you are, it has nothing to do with marijuana.”
“I just feel like you’re keeping tabs on me,” Judy says. “I don’t like you to tell me what to do.” Lydia says she "feels like she is choosing pot over me." Judy says she doesn't like real life, she prefers the "land of the bunnies" where everything is hippity-hop. Seriously. She said that.
Will mother and daughter ever be able to see eye to eye on this little green herb?
