Apparently, the first episode of Wonderland actually starts in Storybrooke, which is a pretty solid link between the two shows. After that, Wonderland will be very much self-contained, though EW hints that there will be future mingling. Bottom line: it seems that ABC wants non-viewers of OUAT to feel like they can watch Wonderland.
This seems like a good balance between codependency and completely separate series. We’re glad that Wonderland will be its own thing — judging by that trailer, it looks like it doesn’t need any help from OUAT — but it will be fun to see some links between the narratives. If OUAT has suffered from anything this season, it has been a lack of focus when it comes to its characters (and their setting). We don’t want Wonderland to fall into the same trap by manufacturing links to OUAT.
Do you think it’s a good idea to have Wonderland start in Storybrooke? Would you prefer more interaction between the two worlds or none at all? Let us know in the comments below!
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will premiere on ABC Thursdays this fall.
