In the video below, Jessica explains that becoming the object of someone’s affection was a “full tilt boogie” from how Arizona started out the season. After the plane crash, she had the devastating loss of her leg, suffered from intense PTSD, and had to fight to “just keep it together and get through every day.” Her journey from being a “miserable person to getting back to being right again” had her “holding on so tightly,” and at the end of the day, she thinks Arizona had to just let go.
“It took a lot of energy and a lot of holding on and controlling herself, and I think this was a trigger where she just went, ‘I’m going to lose control,’” Jessica explained. And as up-in-arms as fans may be, she appreciates that creator Shonda Rhimes did something so “incredibly edgy and risky,” which she thinks creates “such fertile ground for the drama and the thrills that we all want from our TV sets.” Well, there’s no doubt that there will be drama and thrills tonight!
As for jumping into bed together so soon after meeting? Jessica cites the nature of the show for making sense of it. “You have to remember it’s Grey’s Anatomy!” she exclaimed, adding that it’s notorious for bed-hopping and “oh, she did not!” situations. For that reason, she’s not protective of Arizona’s morality, knowing that she isn’t necessarily a bad person for this bad decision.
“It’s very human to do a bad thing but not be a bad person,” she explains. "She did a bad thing and I think on some level she just did something really reckless and she didn’t think.” For Jessica, as many problems as Calzona has been through this season, they had been happy for a long time, so ultimately, she approves of Shonda shaking things up.
“Once Callie and Arizona hooked up, it was just them, and then they got married and it just seemed like that was what it was going to be,” she said. “It would be really boring to see them just be happy.
Personally, we’d love to see them happy forever. Do you agree? Watch the video below, hit the comments with your feelings, and catch the finale of Grey’s Anatomy tonight, Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
