Emma Watson: The Kardashians Inspired My Performance in The Bling Ring
The good news? The Kardashians were muses for adored Brit actress Emma Watson. The bad news? Emma used them as inspiration as she prepared to play a fame-obsessed criminal, as People reports.
Talking to journalists at the Cannes Film Festival, the Harry Potter star name-dropped the famous Hollywood family — along with some other reality stars — as she talked about her research for her role in The Bling Ring.
"I watched a lot of Keeping up with the Kardashians and The Hills, and I tried to understand the psychology of this kind of girl as much as possible," the 23-year-old revealed. "I didn't want her to be just a parody. The accent was hard, as it was a particular kind of dialect. I also thought a lot about what her parents must have been like."
But Emma says that the film isn't just about the crimes the real-life Bling Ring committed.
"This really isn't a heist movie," she said. "It was how about these kids wanted to pretend for just two hours or so that they were actually Paris Hilton and living that life."
Paris, one of the Bling Ring's real-life victims, lent her home and possessions to the production of the Sofia Coppola movie and even has a small on-screen role.
The girls also stole items from Audrina Patridge, one of the stars of The Hills, the other show on which Emma binged. (See how everything comes full circle?)
Guess we'll have to see how much of Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and the rest of the K's we see in Emma's performance when the film hits U.S. theaters on June 14.
