Who won American Idol last night? In case you missed it, the season 12 finale ended with an emotional Candice Glover being crowned the winner, which — let’s face it — was no big surprise.
However, if you’re like us, you did have a moment where you wondered if Kree Harrison might have pulled it off after her stunning reprisal of “Up To The Mountain" this week. The last performance on Wednesday’s performance show sealed the deal, though. Candice took the stage for a history-making rendition of “I Who Have Nothing.” Most of us likely saw the writing on the wall at that point. The Beaumont, South Carolina, native has vocals that are simply unparalleled.
On top of finding out who won American Idol, we were treated to live performances by Psy and former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez (who got a standing ovation from all the judges but Mariah Carey, dahling).
The finalists were also joined by their idols on stage, so Jennifer Hudson joined Candice for an unforgettable rendition of Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable.” The two sounded like their voices were meant to be together, and we could definitely see more collaborations in the future.
Angie Miller was joined by longtime idol Jessie J. after a brief but outstanding duet of “Titanium” with former runner-up Adam Lambert. Frankie Valli also joined the Top 10 guys for a medley, while Aretha Franklin joined the girls for a long-distance medley.
The American Idol judges got in on the act as well, with Mariah performing a medley (yes, yes, lip-synched) of her biggest hits and Keith Urban performing his newest single, “A Little Bit Of Everything.”
Overall, we thought the American Idol 2013 finale was pretty amazing. What did you think of Candice being the last girl standing?
