Dancing With the Stars 2013 Finals: Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough Talk Freestyle (VIDEO)
It was an instant classic. In fact, some Dancing With the Stars fans are already calling Kellie Pickler andDerek Hough’s Season 16 Freestyle the best routine in DWTS history. Agree or not, it felt magical to the judges, the live audience, the viewers at home, and — most importantly — Kellie and Derek. They talked to On the Red Carpet about the dance after Monday's show.
"I don't think it could've felt any better. It was amazing,” Kellie said. "It was one of those feelings where, you know, I've done the show for 11 seasons now, and there are only a handful of those moments,” Derek added. “It was pretty extraordinary to be aware that I was in one of those moments and how proud I was of her. There's so much that could've gone wrong in that routine..."
Though Derek admits they were “so nervous about it,” they “knew the chances” they were taking. “I looked over and I saw my mom bawling her eyes out behind the judges, and [Kellie] was hugging [judge] Carrie Ann [Inaba], and I'm sitting there going 'Don't cry, Derek!'” he revealed. “So it was a very, very good moment."
Win or lose, Kellie said she's learned to dance, but more importantly she’s made friends and she’ll take away those relationships. Derek said, "Honestly, after we did that routine it was almost like a load was taken off. Not only because we'd been working so hard on it, but it was one of those [things] where whatever happens tomorrow, we're just gonna be like 'Man, awesome,' because we couldn't have done any more and it was such a special moment. The crowd's reaction, the judges' reaction, just the way it felt between us. It's one of those things we'll always cherish, no matter what, win or lose."
We’ll all cherish it too, having been part of that moment in our own way, as viewers! What do you think? Was that the dance of the season? The year? More than that? Check out the performance and the interview below, and then hit the comments with your thoughts!
