Zach Galifianakis Got Apartment For 87-Year-Old Homeless Friend, Takes Her to Premieres
Never fear, Zach Galifianakis is here to restore your faith in humanity!
According to the New York Daily News, The Hangover star has been good friends with Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist since 1994, when he was new to L.A., trying to catch a break. He was a regular visitor to Fox Laundry, where Mimi volunteered, living off tips from customers.
He ultimately hit it big with The Hangover, which launched his career into A-list territory, but he never forgot Mimi. Two years ago, he discovered that Mimi, now 87, was homeless. He found her a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment and started covering her rent and utilities.
Not only that, he takes her to film premieres. The Daily News said Zach took her to the opening nights of The Hangover Part II and The Campaign, but no one knew who she was. She was also on his arm last night for the L.A. premiere of the third Hangover film.
“If he’s in town, he takes me," Mimi told the Daily News of her premiere dates with Zach, who married Quinn Lundberg last year. "Otherwise he lets me take a friend. I dress up nice and a friend helps me with my makeup. It’s fun, not something I’ve ever dreamed I’d experience. The limo takes me home afterwards."
