After Hoyt Fortenberry packed his bags and headed to Alaska last season on True Blood, we were waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Usually when characters depart Bon Temps, it is far from peaceful; in fact, people don’t typically leave unless they are killed off.
So it makes sense that, given Hoyt’s calm and leisurely drive out of town, we were worried he would come back and be killed. Fortunately, that was not the case, leaving the door wide open for his triumphant return.
“Hoyt is not dead, he may return, he may need to return for some reason or other. That remains to be seen,” Alan Ball told fans after last year's finale. “But he's clearly still alive. And on our show, characters who remain alive and disappear do tend to come back at some point. Even the dead ones, for that matter.”
Even though he could come back, the question is whether or not he should. Jim Parrack recently weighed in on whether Hoyt’s True Blood journey is over, claiming that if it did end this way, he thought it was a complete story, showcasing Bubba’s transformation from someone who was “utterly dependent upon other people” to leaving and taking care of himself.
And while we will miss Hoyt, we agree — he told his story, and now we’re ready to learn more about some new Bon Temps residents!
