Dancing With the Stars is facing a huge overhaul going into Season 17. The Results Show is out, there are rumors that the judges panel might change, and there are hints that other major changes could be underway. While we think some alterations are definitely in order, there are other elements of the show we hope stay the same forever.
In the spirit of celebrating what the show does really well, here are four things we hope stay the same.
Professional performances. The amateur-becoming-proficient element of the show is obviously key, but we also adore the actual pro performances scattered throughout. With only two instead of three hours a week, we're worried producers will think those "extra" dances are the thing to cut. They definitely shouldn't be — we want to see the pros do their thing!
Audience voting. We're not seriously worried that the show will get rid of viewer voting, though, obviously, given the new format, it will have to work a bit differently. Whatever happens, the audience having a role in deciding the outcome of the show is part of the fun.
Ballroom focus. While we're not entirely opposed to the show dabbling into other dance forms, this is primarily a ballroom show. That's what the pros know, and that's what the viewers want. We hope that doesn't get lost entirely.
Fun and spectacle! OK, sometimes the show goes overboard with the "spectacle" element. But the big opening numbers, sparkly costumes, and general sense of over-the-top fun is part of what makes DWTS such a fantastic way to wind down after a tough Monday.
