Revenge’s Emily VanCamp Speaks Out About a Topic Close to Her Heart

When she’s not busy kicking down doors and lighting up houses as Emily Thorne on Revenge, actress Emily VanCamp spends her time being a badass ... for the environment. The 27-year-old Canadian loves animals and their habitats and she wants you to know about it.

On June 5, she wrote a guest blog for the HuffPost Green in honor of World Environment Day titled, “Elephants, Bikes and Gardens: Why I Care About All Three — Especially Today.”

That’s right, this Revenger is really just a tree-hugger at heart. In the blog, she talks about her collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, which she and co-star boyfriend Josh Bowman filmed a PSA for in February 2013.

The actress helped launch the “Hands Off My Parts” initiative (not to be confused with THE Initiative) to “raise awareness and mobilize support to end the illegal trade of wildlife.”

And it turns out that Em’s efforts were a success! Thailand’s prime minister pledged to end Thailand’s ivory sales, which is huge considering the country has one of the world’s largest ivory markets.

But the fight is far from over, according to the Ontario native. She encourages fans and readers to always be conscious of the potential negative affects their actions could have on the environment.

“I'm mindful about recycling; I'm mindful about my water usage; I'm mindful of what I eat; and I use environmentally friendly products in my house. I always drive a hybrid car or ride my bike,” she writes. “On World Environment Day, let this be the day that we start to take that small, but significant first step. Every action, large or small, counts.”

We think this is a great cause to rally behind! What about you? Tell us below!
