Moms Brawl During Second Grade Talent Show

Two mothers of second-graders at Lakeview Elementary School in St. Cloud, Florida gave an unforgettable performance recently at the school’s talent show.

As reported by WFTV, school officials told St. Cloud police that the moms apparently got into an argument when one mother, Latisha James, stood up to see her child’s performance, and blocked the view of another mother, Jessica Tyler, as she tried to take photos of her child and niece.

According to Tyler, she walked up to James and politely asked her to sit down. Tyler says James did not comply, and swore at her. Tyler then returned to her seat briefly before standing up and walking in front of James to take some photos, and then returned to her seat a second time.

Tyler says that while walking back to her seat she accidentally bumped into a child who had accompanied James, knocking the small child to the floor. James is then accused of following Tyler to her seat, grabbing her by the throat, and punching her several times.

James told police that when Tyler bumped the child, she confronted the woman, who said, “I told you to move,” and pushed James on the shoulder. James said she “kind of blacked out at that point” and grabbed Tyler by the throat and started throwing punches. Bystanders had to pull the two women apart.

The women are both facing potential battery charges and have been banned from school grounds. Police spokeswoman Sergeant Denise Roberts say that police believe James was the primary aggressor, and that she was arrested Sunday night.

Police added that although Tyler was not immediately arrested, both women have been listed as suspects and victims in the incident, and intend to file charges against the other. James told WFTV, "I am very remorseful for what I've done, but I don't know what else I could have done."

A mother of six children, James said that although she's not sorry for attacking Tyler, she regrets that this happened at her child's school. "I want all the parents and Lakeview to know that I am really, really, sorry and that's not how I behave," she said.
