Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Spoilers: Expect Pilot References

What can we expect from the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 premiere? References to the pilot that started it all, for one thing!

To the right, you can see a promo photo from Season 4, Episode 1. It looks like the girls are at yet another funeral, as they are all dressed in black in the middle of the day. It's very reminiscent of a similar scene from the pilot. Both scenes seem to feature a police officer harassing the girls post-funeral (classy). In the pilot, it was Wilden. In the Season 4 premiere, it is newcomer State Police Officer Gabriel Holbrook (played by Sean Faris). This photo of the Liars (plus Mona) in their black dresses gathered around a phone also reminds us of the pilot.

Whose funeral is it? And where is Wilden? Could it be Wilden’s funeral? Could his body be the grisly sight the girls are met with in Wilden’s trunk? We don’t know, but we do know that this isn’t the only reference to the series pilot in the episode.

“There are definitely some homage to pilot moments in the season 4 premiere,” PLL showrunner Marlene King has tweeted.

We wonder what moments Marlene & Co. will be referencing? They already paid homage to the Ezria “goodbye” kiss in the Season 3 finale. Perhaps another dead body will be found in a similar scenario to the discovery of Ali’s body? Or maybe it will be something more mundane — like Emily and Aria’s quiet moment on the porch swing? There are so many good moments to choose from.

Which pilot references would you like to see? And whose maybe-funeral are the girls attending? Let us know your theories in the comments below!
