American Idol 2014: Executive Producer Per Blankens Hired to Replace Nigel Lythgoe, Ken Warwick

Welp, that didn't take long!

While the dust is still settling with Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick's firing as longtime executive producers of American Idol, Fox is already confirming that they have gone outside the country to find a new showrunner for the struggling reality singing competition.

Per Blankens, who heads programming for Meter Television, one of Scandinavia's production companies that made versions of Idol (Per is executive producer for the Swedish version of Idol), MasterChef, and The Biggest Loser, has closed a deal to serve as executive producer of the Fox series for its 13th season, which begins in January.

When asked if it will be weird to see another person at the helm, Nigel told E! News, "Of course, and I'm saddened from that point of view. I suppose both Ken [Warwick] and myself, we created the production that then went worldwide and certainly created the results show, which was never in anybody's thoughts until we came to America. And it feels like that's the template for many other reality shows now. So then to be asked to leave, it's then like, 'Oh wow.'"

Do you think a change in command will save the show? What should he do to turn things around at American Idol?
