Two-Faced Kitten Born in Oregon: See This Amazing Cat! (VIDEO)
Sometimes, things happen that seem like signs of some sort. On Tuesday, an extremely rare event occurred when a kitten was born with two faces.
Stephanie Durkee, owner of both the female kitten and the kitten’s mother, told the Guardian that when the cat was born, she immediately took it to the vet. She reports that the little feline is in good health, and that she “meows loudly from both mouths."
The kitten has been named “Duecy” (awww!) and Durkee told Portland's KGW-TV that sadly, the kitten has been rejected by her mother. Durkee is doing her best to fill in by feeding Duecy warmed-up kitten formula from a syringe.
Durkee said, "The kids... came in and said, 'Mom there's a kitty with two heads. And I said, 'I think you guys are just tired, you're crazy, that doesn't happen.'"
It is rare, but two-faced cats are not completely unheard of. These cats are referred to as Janus cats, after the Roman god with two faces (and the month of January). In 2012, a Port Charlotte, Florida, couple's cat gave birth to a two-faced male kitten. Sadly, he died after two days.
Durkee says Deucy was born under the Gemini (twins) astrological sign on 6/11 at 6:11 p.m. She says she "can’t help but wonder at the 'double' coincidences surrounding Deucy’s birth.
Durkee says that she plans to keep Deucy, and we wish her the best of luck with her special new kitty!
