5 Things You Didn’t Know About Once Upon a Time’s Robert Carlyle

Robert Carlyle (Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin) is one of Once Upon a Time's most famed and acclaimed actors, thanks to his roles in films like Trainspotting and The Full Monty. But how well do you really know the man behind the imp makeup?

While Robert's die-hard fans already know every detail about the talented Scot's life, here are some fun facts about the actor that the average OUAT viewer might not know yet.

1. He started acting at the age of 21. Unlike those actors who have known it's what they want to do since they were born, Robert didn't start acting until he was 21, when he enrolled in classes at the Glasgow Arts Centre.

2. He owns a theater company. In 1991 Robert founded the Raindog Theatre Company. It was named after the Tom Waits album "Rain Dogs," and is "dedicated to innovative work."

3. He starred in an Oasis music video. Yep: He's featured in the video for "Little by Little." Check it out!

4. He once played Hitler. Robert starred in the TV movie Hitler: The Rise of Evil. Hard to imagine!

5. He has three kids. Robert and his wife, makeup artist Anastasia Shirley, have three children: Ava, Harvey, and Pearce Joseph.
