Stephen Colbert, host of The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, has just lost his mother.
Lorna Elizabeth Tuck Colbert, mother of 11 children — including Stephen — died on Wednesday at the age of 92. With an extended family of 82, Lorna will be leaving behind a legacy. She was an accomplished artist, church leader, businesswoman, and supporter of the arts, according to her obituary in South Carolina's Post and Courier.
Her husband and three children have previously passed away — with three of the four dying in a plane crash in 1974 — and she is survived by a score of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Back in February 2012, Stephen, 49, took an unexpected leave of absence from The Colbert Report with the network saying, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the show will air repeat episodes." A few days after the announced hiatus, Stephen returned and addressed his departure. "Evidently, having 11 children makes you tough as nails. Confidential to a lovely lady."
