Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke on Her Latest Role in Spike Island
Emilia Clarke has become an international star thanks to her turn as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, so it should come as no surprise that she’s now turning her attention to movies!
Emilia's latest project is a starring role in the new British film Spike Island, directed by Mat Whitecross. The film centers on a group of young people trying to attend a Stone Roses concert in 1990. As Emilia explained in an interview with The Chronicle, “It may not be the story of the Stone Roses' lives and careers, but they are the reason why the film exists. It's a love letter to them.”
Emilia will be portraying Sally, who she describes as both the "lucky mascot" of the mostly male cast and the mastermind of the group’s plan: "Sally is secretly the brains behind it all."
In a classic “art imitating life” moment, Emilia claims that it was the Stone Rose’s music that helped her get through the long, difficult shoots the film required. She reveals, “We were all there going, 'How are we going to get through this?' And then they'd whack on the Stone Roses, and genuinely — I'm not being funny, it's so cheesy but so true — they'd come on and everyone was like 'Ah, f*** it, we're gonna have a mint time.”
We love the enthusiasm. And, by the way, we’re definitely using the phrase, “gonna have a mint time” all the time now.
Emilia also described the film as "basically imagine everything that is opposite to Game of Thrones." It's full of heart and no, you will not be seeing Emilia in the nude for this one!
The film is set to be released on June 21 in Ireland and the U.K.
