Once Upon a Time's Regina (Lana Parrilla) hasn't had the best luck in love (of all sorts), to put it mildly. Her mother was evil, manipulative, and literally unable to truly love her because she didn't have her heart. Her True Love was murdered by her mother. She feels like her son is being taken away from her, and while a lot of that is because of Henry's justified reaction to her evil actions, it's painful for her. Will Regina ever be able to find love with someone?
According to the showrunners, we might see Regina "date" in the future, and clearly, if she's going to get a happy ending, it will require some kind of love, since that is so central to Once Upon a Time. But who should she find love with?
Depending on your point of view, the options are either nearly endless, or extremely limited. She'll need someone who can understand, or at least forgive, her darker nature, and, for a happy ending, someone who will be able to bring out the good in her. Who could that be?
There are actually plenty of eligible bachelors in Storybrooke who might suit her well. There are characters like Hook or even Dr. Whale who have dark pasts themselves; perhaps she and a future partner could find redemption through love together. Or maybe she needs the opposite — someone like Archie, would could be her moral compass.
Of course, there's no reason to limit the theoretical pool to just men — sure, Regina fell in love with Daniel, but a sample size of one is not a convincing argument against her ever falling in love with a woman. Plenty of fans think the perfect person to help save Regina is none other than the savior herself, Emma Swan.
Or maybe you think that Daniel was Regina's real One True Love, and what she really needs for a happy ending is familial love — through acceptance into the Charming clan and a reunion with Henry.
