Blake Shelton Snags His Third Voice Win! What’s His Secret?

Critics and producers love predicting who the first “breakout star” from The Voice will be, but what they fail to realize is that we’ve already met him. Country crooner Blake Shelton has been with the show since it began and in his four seasons in the big red chairs has managed to move from country music obscurity to national fame.

Not only that, but the star has made country music cool again, opening the genre up to a whole new audience. And somehow this backwoods Oklahoma boy has managed to pick three of the show’s four winners in a row.

So does the “Honey Bee” singer have a secret coaching method? We’re not so sure. Until this season, it seemed that Blake had simply gotten the luck of the draw.

Season 2 winner, Jermaine Paul, shocked many when he took home the title, but surprised few when he went on to do little with it. As far as we know, Blake wasn’t involved in Jermaine’s post-Voice career and the singer has yet to produce an EP or an album.

Cassadee Pope’s Season 3 strategy was a little more obvious. She started off singing tunes from her pop rock wheelhouse, but reached a turning point when she sang Miranda Lambert’s emotional hit “Over You.” From that point on, Cass was all country, singing Rascal Flatts and Faith Hill, and that genre change propelled her to the No. 1 spot on iTunes week after week.

Hot off his second win, Blake Shelton seemed determined to make up a team of country powerhouses in Season 4. It was clear America was responding to the twang in their talent, and even Adam Levine’s final artist, Amber Carrington, had roots in country.

Two of Blake’s artists landed in the Top 3, proving that country music was not to be messed with. And Danielle Bradbery’s Season 4 win surprised no one. Words of wisdom to future Voice contestants: Don’t choose Team Blake if you’re not a country artist or willing to become one because that’s clearly his strategy.

We know the funny man will be jonesing for a fourth win in Season 5, even if just to rub Adam Levine’s nose in it.
