What’s Really Going on With Your Bottled Water? (Hint: It’s Not Good)

Did you know that bottled water is the second-most consumed commercial beverage in the United States, coming in right after soda? Some might say that's hard to believe considering the drink comes out of our faucets — for free!

Men's Health recently revealed "4 Surprising Secrets About Bottled Water" that may have you skipping the pretty container of bottled water. Not only does the bottled stuff not necessarily taste better, but in some cases, it's not even all that pure.

According to the report, 22% of bottled water brands tested in a recent study by the Natural Resources Defense Council were found to have chemical contaminants levels that exceeded state guidelines. (1,000 bottles of water were tested.) Meanwhile, there are strict governmental standards in place to ensure that tap water stays safe.

Health issues aside, bottled water is hardly green. As noted in Men’s Health, "nearly 90 percent of the 30 billion PET [polyethylene terepthalate plastic ] water bottles we buy annually end up in landfills."

So you tell us — have you switched from bottled water to tap?
