The Originals Season 1 Pilot: A New Episode or a Repeat?
When The Originals debuts on The CW on October 15, are we destined for a brand-new viewing experience, or will we simply see the backdoor pilot with a few new scenes thrown into the mix? According to Michael Ausiello at TVLine, when The Originalscast heads to Atlanta to begin filming Season 1 in mid-July, they’ll start with an entirely new first episode.
“Those attending the Vampire Diaries spin-off’s San Diego Comic-Con panel will get to see a slightly different cut of the planted pilot, but the Oct. 15 series premiere is very much an all-new episode,” says Ausiello. He’s likely referring to the re-cut pilot that was sent out to news outlets with the rest of The CW new series screeners.
It makes sense that The Originals would want to start fresh. After all, they’re hoping to attract more than just Vampire Diaries fans to the new show and therefore need to introduce the mythology of Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his family. Plus, it makes sense that they’d make a time jump from the backdoor pilot, so that Rebekah (Claire Holt) can join her brothers in New Orleans pretty quickly after she’s finished with her trip around the world.
TVD is jumping ahead from spring to fall in Season 4. If The Originals makes a similar leap, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will be all that much closer to birthing Klaus’s bambino.
