Supreme Court Rules DOMA Unconstitutional: Real Housewives React

Much of America woke to the news this morning that the Supreme Court ruled, with a 5-4 vote, that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional. Passed in 1996, the law — abbreviated as DOMA — denied same-sex spouses the same benefits that married, heterosexual couples enjoy.

In his opinion, Justice Kennedy wrote, "The federal statute is invalid, for no legitimate purpose overcomes the purpose and effect to disparage and injure those whom the State, by its marriage laws, sought to protect in personhood and dignity. By seeking to displace this protection and treating those persons as living in marriages less respected than others, the federal statute is in violation of the Fifth Amendment."

The Supreme Court also dismissed an appeal regarding Proposition 8, a decision which allows same-sex marriages to resume in California. Many cast members of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Real Housewives of Orange County reacted to the news on Twitter. Check them out below!
