The duchess has already received a baby box from Finland containing everything a new mommy would need from some bra pads to condoms (thanks, guys!), and the Prime Minister of Australia sent over a knitted red kangaroo. But her most recent gift of a $15K bracelet that features a diaper ointment canister takes the cake for the most chic and totally bizarre gift yet!
According to E!, British jeweler Theo Fennell — his roster of hugely famous clients include Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham, and Madonna, to name a few — was commissioned by the makers of diaper ointment Sudocrem to create an 18 karat white gold jeweled charm bracelet, and his masterpiece is reported to be worth over $15,000.
While that’s not strange by itself, the fact that the single “charm” is a small pot that doubles as a holder for diaper ointment definitely makes this a piece of statement jewelry. Is it the baby season’s new must-have? We’ll find out soon enough!
The small jeweled container — modeled after the Sudocrem diaper cream pot, of course — allows the duchess to stash the perfect amount of baby butt ointment while still maintaining her classically elegant style. Once the royal baby arrives and his or her name and gender are revealed, an engraved charm will be placed next to the pot to personalize the gift. Classy!
While we can’t argue that the bracelet is certainly convenient, we have a feeling that the Kate will be relieved to know that she’ll never actually have to wear the piece. The bracelet will be auctioned to raise money for the East Anglia Children's Hospice, one of Kate’s pet charitable causes.
According to a Sudocrem spokesperson, "In the spirit of giving it's about putting something back."
