It’s time for more summer fun with America’s Got Talent, and tonight’s episode will not disappoint! Auditions continue in The Big Easy in search of the perfect acts to move on to next week’s Las Vegas round and, ultimately, to find the winner of the $1 million prize.
Right on the heels of Nik Wallenda’s death-defying high wire walk across the Grand Canyon comes John Nock’s Aerosphere Aerial Balloon Show act. A seventh-generation circus performer, John will accompany his aerialist wife, Alexandra, and high school-aged son, Andrew, in presenting this unique act. NBC describes it as a “group act using giant helium balloons to present aerial performance, and the only acts of its kind in the United States.”
During the performance, John and Andrew will guide the balloon with the help of David O’Neill of Nokomis. As they do so, Alexandra floats over the crowd below, and even dangles low enough to be able to touch people. Eek!
It’s amazing this act made it onto the show in the first place. John told the Sarasota Herald and Tribune they only had 90 seconds during their audition to get the music going, move the balloon, and make the balloon go up.
In addition to the Nock family’s act, you’ll be treated to a unique hybrid of Irish dancing and hip-hop done by the band Hammerstep.
The YouTube video is quite interesting, and their initial impression leaves judge Heidi Klum cold. According to her, they all looked like they were wearing gas masks. Once they began the dance, however, the judges were mesmerized. Mel B and Howie Mandel even gave them a standing ovation. Mel said they were “weird and dark and tense and mysterious,” going on to say, “You blew me away.” All of the judges agreed, with Howard Stern adding, “Your skill level is so high, you’re impossible to ignore.”
If you’ve watched the promos, you know we’re also in store for an older gentleman who calls himself “Captain Explosion”. Basically, he goes out into a field with the intention of blowing himself up. For real. We don’t get it, but we’ll just have to tune in to NBC (9 p.m.-11 p.m.) to shed some light on that one.
