The vivacious Tamra Barney has always looked fabulous. But now that the Real Housewives of Orange County star has opened her own gym called CUT Fitness, we're curious to know what her secrets are to getting a killer bod.

People often ask me how I lost so much weight and the truth is I only lost 5 pounds. But what I did do was transform my body through diet and exercise,” Tamra says on her
website. On the site, she offers a bunch of tips on how she got fit and shed a few pounds.

Keep a food log
Tamra Barney suggests using an app to log everything you eat, so you’ll know the percentage of carbs, fat, and protein found in your daily diet. “If you are eating 1200 calories and 90% is carbs...That's a red flag and you need to bring that percentage down,” Tamra explains.

Pick up some weight
It’s not enough to just do cardio. “I still do about 40 min of cardio 3 times a week; I now concentrate on weight training — because in your 40s, you start [losing] muscle and there is no better way to build muscle than lifting weights,” says Tamra.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
If you’re not drinking enough water, Tamra has a recipe to up your agua intake: “Take 3 green tea bags and steep them in boiling water. Once steeped, pour into a juice pitcher to which you add a teaspoon of honey. Stir together and add some fresh lemon slices. Add some ice cubes to this and refrigerate. Drink this every few hours.”

Be aware of what you eat
Never skip meals, especially breakfast, and stay away from processed foods (including nutrition bars). "I do not starve myself, and so I eat something every few hours to keep my metabolism going," says Tamra.
