Keegan likes the scene in Season 4, Episode 4: “Face Time” that sees him visiting an elderly Dr. Palmer at a convalescent home to find answers about his mother’s alleged suicide. “And so Toby goes to this, I guess this convalescent home, which we shot on location, which was really fun, and he meets Dr. Palmer,” explains Keegan in an ABC Family video. “The actor that I worked with was so wonderful: Nick Tate. He came up with all of these surprises. It threw me because I wasn’t prepared for the amount of insanity that he was bringing to the table, and then getting to see that, that was one of my favorite moments for sure.”
We really enjoyed this scene, as well. It was refreshing to see Toby carrying scenes without a Liar this season, and Keegan has been doing a splendid job of leading the viewer on an emotional journey. This scene was a perfect balance of sentiment and suspense, as we learned that a blonde girl visited Toby’s mother in the time before her death, but still felt Toby’s pain as he struggles to come to terms with the tragedy.
PLL has a habit of casting great actors for their guest spots and recurring roles (Hector Lime, anyone?), and Dr. Palmer was no exception. Even if this character doesn’t pop up again, we’ll remember his turn as the kindly psychologist who has descended into madness himself.
