UPDATE: Vancouver police confirm that the 31-year-old male found dead is indeed Cory Monteith (Finn), dead of an apparent drug overdose. According to the official police statement, "Shortly after noon today, the Vancouver Police received a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver."
Police report that while Cory had been with others in his room the previous night, security cameras indicate he was alone at the time of his death. When Cory missed his check-out time, hotel staff entered the room and discovered his body. According to the police representative, there were no signs of foul play. While VPD would not confirm or deny whether drug paraphernalia was present in the room, given Cory's April stint in rehab for substance abuse, it seems safe to us to assume that his death was drug-related.
An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the official cause of death.
We join the Vancouver police in extending our condolences to Cory's family — both his biological family and his Glee family — for this incredible loss.
