Sure, Kris Jenner’s daytime talk show Kris just started on July 15, but that hardly makes it safe from the whims and wishes of Hollywood execs. What’s brand new today, could be canceled tomorrow. Some even think the show shouldn’t have made it this far. So will Kris make the cut after its six-week test run?
Judging from the premiere episode, in which Kris takes a cue from Oprah, we’re just gonna say it: This show ain’t gonna last. Yes, yes — we know that sounds harsh. But unless Kris really pulls out the stops (aka brings on REAL North West and not some diapered decoy), there’s not much Kris the show has to contribute to the already overpopulated realm of daytime TV.
One major issue we’ve seen so far is the sheer amount of Kardashian news Kris rehashes. The repackaged family highlights make Kris’s solo project pretty much an extension of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a show that owes much of its incredible success to the ever-changing storylines of the entire Kardashian-Jenner family. It’s hard to create that much khaos on your own, even if you are Kris Jenner.
Another entertainment example comes to mind in this situation: those spin-off books J.K. Rowling published during Harry Potter hysteria. If you’re a hardcore fan, of course you’ll gobble up the likes of Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard. But if your obsession runs a milder fever and/or you’d prefer to watch Ellen, you’ll skip the sloppy seconds.
But then again, it wouldn’t be unlike the momager to make something out of nothing (Kim Kardashian’s sex tape, anyone?). Plus, Fox looks to be putting some big money into the project. Currently Kris is airing in six test cities — New York, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Dallas, Charlotte, and, of course, Los Angeles — and covering a wide range of time slots — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In a somewhat surprising twist, it actually hasn’t done too bad ratings wise. According to The Wrap, Kris has even pulled ahead of more established shows like Dr. Phil and Katie.
