The world has lost a shining light. A short Facebook update fromEllen DeGeneres broke the heartbreaking news that YouTube star and CoverGirl Talia Joy Castellano lost her battle with cancer this morning. Talia battled neuroblastoma for more than 6 years and had been recently diagnosed with pre-leukemia.
This year I met a very special girl, and today we lost her. Sending my heart to Talia's family. I'm so sad.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22am,” read a post made by her family this morning on theAngels for Talia Facebook page. “Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven and please send your love and prayers to her family during this most difficult time. God speed little one, may you be free from pain and suffering, may your soul feel the light and love that you brought to so many of us on this Earth during the short time you were here with us. We will miss you more than you will ever know baby girl.”
We have followed Talia’s makeup tutorials and monthly rants for years. We have watched her channel explode with support for her talent and passion and her zest for life. We were so excited for her visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show last year to share her story of her battle with cancer and how she overcomes her daily struggles by poring over her makeup drawer. And we were embarrassingly giddy when CoverGirl presented her with the title of Honorary CoverGirl and her own mock ad.
Talia was the epitome of positive thinking, making the most of her short life, and bringing joy and smiles to everyone she knew or met. Our hearts are heavy with sadness for her friends and family, and no doubt those nearly 750,000 YouTube followers will be left with an empty space as her videos have come to an end.
We lost a true young inspiration today. Much love, Talia.
