The Bachelorette

Chris Siegfried Caught Out on the Town by Wetpaint Editor! Exclusive

When Chris Siegfried is not writing poems to girls who may or may not be dating other men, the Bachelorette 2013 front-runner hangs out just like any other normal dude. And since Chris lives in Seattle where Wetpaint’s West Coast office is located it was only a matter of time before one of our editors ran into him IRL. Here’s Assistant Editor Julia Wayne’s first-hand account:

On July 14, I (photo, right) spotted Chris out in the wild and got a chance to talk to him for a few minutes. I know what your first question is going to be. Yes, he is as attractive in real life as on television. And really tall. I’m 5’10” and Chris towered over me by a whole (attractive) head.

Chris was hanging with two equally attractive guy friends at the Ballard SeafoodFest on Sunday afternoon, outside of the beer garden. The three guys were talking to a couple other friends, one of whom had a darling dog, which is why I noticed them in the first place. When his friend caught me looking in Chris’s direction (possibly with my phone poised to take a picture... ), I decided I should just walk over.

I greeted him by name, shook his hand, then shamelessly asked his friend to snap a picture. Chris was incredibly nice, and although he failed to respond to my questions in iambic pentameter, he lived up to all my expectations.

The mortgage man didn’t stand out from the crowd — meaning he wasn't glowing like Edward or surrounded by screaming girls. In fact, he was dressed just as Bachelorette fans would expect, in dark shorts and leather top-siders, with sunglasses hanging from his red V-neck shirt, despite the bright sunshine. And, to my surprise, he seemed truly shocked that he was recognized.

Plus, he’s a seasoned pro. I couldn’t resist asking him how Desiree Hartsock is doing, you know, in case Chris does end up winning and is also terrible at keeping secrets. “She was really nice... on the show,” he hedged in response.

My one regret about our encounter? I really wanted to buy him a lager and say “Would you accept this beer?” Perhaps after a few, he would’ve been a little looser in the lips. Next time.

When he’s not being really, really, ridiculously good looking, Chris does what the rest of us do here in the Northwest: He plays volleyball, hits the green for a round of golf, gets his hair cut, and waves signs at Mariners games. Reality television stars — they’re just like us!
