Bachelorette Emily Maynard has gotten engaged not once, but twice, on national television, so she's basically an expert when it comes to wedding dos and don'ts. Em's been to plenty of weddings over the years, and the time has come for her to answer the age-old dquestion: is it okay for guests to wear black?
Everyone knows that wearing white to a wedding is a total fashion crime (the bride will literally snatch your weave in a deranged cake-induced rage), but some old-fashioned types seem to think black is off-limits too. Well, according to our girl Emily, not so much.
This blondie locks recently wore a black jumpsuit to a friend's wedding, which she accessorized with a high-waisted belt and a few signature pieces from her new jewelry line with Charlotte-based designer Towne and Reese.
"I went back and forth about whether or not it was appropriate to wear black to a wedding, but in my opinion that only rule is NO WHITE!" Emily wrote in a recent post for her lifestyle website. "Black might say, 'I'm in mourning at your wedding and am secretly bummed it's not me,' but not if you pair it with some sparkly jewelry, a big smile, and a nice gift from their registry!"
Amen to that, sister. And way to not project at all. Plus, black is ultra-slimming, goes well with every pair of shoes in your closet, and can easily be dressed-up or dressed-down depending on whether the wedding you're attending is a swanky evening affair or a simple summer bash.
There's no denying that Emily looks amazing in her black jumpsuit, but do you think the look is wedding appropriate? Weigh in below, fashionistas!
