Cory Monteith Death: How Lea Michele Heard the News
It’s been one hell of a week, fellow Gleeks, with nothing but bad news seeming to come out in the wake of Cory Monteith (Finn)’s accidental drug overdose. Today, though, there is a glimmer of sunshine; Cory’s girlfriend of nearly two years, Lea Michele (Rachel), has people in her life who go above and beyond to take care of her.
Thanks to the efforts of an unnamed friend, Lea didn’t hear the devastating news of Cory’s death through the grapevine. According to Us Magazine, “the person on the other end of the line had been desperate to reach her before the news broke.” Whomever that kind-hearted person may be, you spared Lea additional pain during what is already a heartbreaking time.
Us Magazine reports it was close, though, with Lea receiving the unimaginable phone call in Los Angeles around 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. That’s little more than 30 minutes before CNN tweeted about Cory’s death and word spread like wildfire online.
During their relationship, Lea fought long and hard to help keep Cory sober. Although he did sadly lose the battle with addiction, the positive influence the Glee star had on millions of people is evident in the wave of support sent Lea’s way during a week of grief we know we would love to forget.
