Grayson, who has suffered from the neurological disorder diffuse fibrillary astrocytoma, underwent a debulking operation to reduce the size of his brain tumor. Slade’s now-fiancee, Gretchen Rossi, shared the news of Grayson's operation and asked fans to pass along their thoughts and prayers. “I still cannot go into detail, but it's been a very rough night for everyone," she wrote, following the surgery. "Please continue to uplift Grayson and pray for him. Thank u dearly from the bottom of my heart.”
Grayson’s mother, Michelle Arroyo, added a few more details on herAmazing Gray Facebook page, writing, “Gray is steadily improving. At this point there is no sign of seizures or excessive swelling and we have an intracranial pressure monitor with a shunt to manage fluid build up. Decompression and debulking area look good in the two post op CT scans. Now we just need to be patient as Gray's brain and body adjust to the changes from surgery.”
After 94 days in the ICU, Grayson was moved to a rehab facility in January 2013. In early April, Grayson was able to return home, where he has received a steady stream of care from his mother.
"We are home...and working really hard around the clock to get our boy better," Michelle shared. "Gray still has his tracheostomy which requires 24 hour oxygen, we work his lungs daily with chest physiotherapy and nebulized breathing treatments. He has right sided facial paralysis — weakness, which prevents him from closing his right eye and causes a half smile."
On June 11, Michelle wrote, "Gray has been working super hard to start standing on his feet even though their position is very difficult with his knee and ankle contractures. He is determined to get moving again, and our goal is to have him up and mobile by the end of this month, with a walker or assistive device."
We wish the whole family, especially brave little Grayson, the best during this difficult time.
