Heathers — the TV Show? Bravo Ditches Plans to Reboot the Cult Film (UPDATE)
UPDATE: Nearly a year after the news first broke of a Heathers small-screen revival, THR reports that the series is not moving forward. Boo!
Earlier: Stock up on corn nuts and cherry Slushees, you guys! In a push to add more scripted shows to its programming, Bravo has a TV reboot of ’80s cult film Heathers in development, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Oh, it’s going to be so very.
You remember Heathers, don’t you — because we can kind of recite it by heart. It’s the 1988 high school black comedy in which Winona Ryder (Veronica Sawyer) and Christian Slater (J.D.) scheme to murder their school’s most popular students and make it look like suicide. But they do it all while wearing incredible fashion and using unforgettable slang.
Bravo’s version would take place 20 years later, focusing on a grown-up Veronica returning to her hometown of Sherwood, Ohio, with her own daughter. Once she arrives at Sherwood High, she quickly falls in with a clique of mean girls all named Ashley, who are the daughters of the original, surviving Heathers.
So it’s kind of like Heathers: The Next Generation, and we couldn’t be more excited — as long as there’s plenty of Swatch watches and reindeer games, of course.
