This conversation is as much about determining Mona’s loyalty as it is Wren’s — especially given that their interests are presently at odds. Now that Mona is Team Liars (we think), this would seem to imply that Wren is on an anti-Liars team. Is Mona hesitant to confide in Wren because she knows he is working for “A”? Mona was quite literally fired from the “A” Team. She has to have some pent-up frustrations about the whole Thornhill Lodge incident...
Regardless of whether CeCe is “A,” she is decidedly anti-Liars. We also know she has had some interaction with Wren when he helped her sneak into Radley to see Mona the first time she was there. Does Wren’s willingness to assist CeCe go beyond snagging the blonde a visiting pass? Could he be passing CeCe information about the goings-on at Radley — and the Liars?
Melissa and Wren were close once. Post-break-up, it would seem that they are enemies (or, at the very least, frenemies), but what if they aren’t? Mona has never been on the same side as Spencer’s older sister, and has actively insisted the Liars not trust her. Has Mona stopped trusting Wren because she knows he will tell Melissa everything she says? Was Wren imagining the Red Coat-ed girl in the picture as Melissa?
With the Liars
There is also the possibility that Mona really isn’t Team Liars, and the “loyalties” Wren has are to the Liars. We’re not sure how getting Veronica Hastings to recuse herself from Ashley Marin’s case would work in the Liars’ favor, but we’re not sure about a lot of things in Rosewood — there is so much that happens off-screen that we only find out about later. Could Wren be on the Liars’ side after all?
