Miley Cyrus is constantly in the headlines for her edgy fashion, crazy hairstyles, and non-Disney 180 image overhaul. A few days ago, she sat down with E! Fashion Police’s Kelly Osbourne to chat about her short hair and naked Marc Jacobs campaign.
As part of a “Protect the Skin You’re In” skin cancer awareness effort, Miley stripped down for a limited edition T-shirt — which sold out on its first day. “I think if I can just use where I am in my career, and use myself as a pedestal to like do good — even if it means getting naked — cuz more people are going to look at it… more people are going to buy it if you’re naked,” Miley said of taking it off for a good cause.
But her nudity wasn’t the only topic of conversation. Also on the table: Her short, edgy ‘do — which, she revealed, she recently accessorized with a clip-in rattail (WHY MILEY WHY?!). After wearing hair extensions for so long, Miley feels like she is “speaking on behalf of short-haired girls everywhere” by posing on Maxim with her less girly look. But that’s not to say she doesn’t miss her longer tresses. “I love a good weave,” Miley said in all seriousness, adding that she’s “secretly tugging on it every night.”
And as for her “transformation” from kid to an adult, Miley explains, “it’s called puberty. Everyone’s done from the beginning of time.” True, she’s grown up in front of a much bigger audience than we did, and has been under the microscope because of it. Now, though, she’s trying her best to show off who she really is.
“I think people don’t get that I’m a real human being,” Miley says of her edgy videos, funky fashion, and live-out-loud personality. “I just want it to be really honest. I feel like I’ve been a character for so long, that now I just want all my performances, all my videos to be really real.”
As far as we’re concerned, we’ll take as much of the “real” Miley as we can get — crotch-grabbing photos, silly sweat-jeans, and all.
