With the debut of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.coming up, we've been seeing more people looking for their Joss Whedon answers, we've got em, but beware...
Ready to continue, despite there being spoilers if you're not entirely caught up/versed in Firefly/Serenity and Buffy? Good.
Why did Joss Whedon Kill Wash? Anya? Tara? Joss Whedon is second only to George R. R. Martin in the sudden deaths of his major characters. This question comes through a lot: why did Joss kill off my favorite character? And so quickly?!
For answers, let's look to what Joss said about Wash back in the day. Via io9: "Dramatically, the more I worked on [Serenity's screenplay], the more it became clear that in order to make people feel that this was real, a certain shocking thing is going to have to happen."
When death happens to real people we love, it's often shocking. One reason Joss's characters are so compelling is because they feel real, and in real life, death isn't always a memorial in itself.
