Teacher Who Instructed Students to Hit Class Bully Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail

A judge has decided to teach an ex-educator in San Antonio, Texas, quite a lesson. Cynthia Ambrose was recently sentenced to 30 days in jail for asking her kindergarten students to hit a fellow student who she thought was bullying others.

Ambrose, 44, taught kindergarten at Salinas Elementary School. In May 2012, she allegedly instructed her class to line up and hit another 6-year-old classmate so he knows “how it feels like to be a bully.”

Ambrose was convicted in June of the misdemeanor charge of “official oppression.” On Tuesday, Judge Sid Harle told the court that he wanted to prevent Ambrose from teaching for the maximum time possible, although Ambrose is already on a one-year suspension from the Texas Education Agency. The judge handed down a maximum of two years of probation, as well as 30 days of jail time.

The ex-teacher tearfully told the judge she is a good person. “I hope and pray that all parties involved find peace,” she said.
