Laura Prepon’s future on Orange Is the New Black is looking pretty bleak.
Earlier this month it was reported that the fan favorite (who plays Alex Vause, Piper Chapman’s lesbian lover responsible for her time in the clink) wouldn’t be returning to the Netflix hit.
We were overjoyed when Laura was quick to deny those rumors, clarifying that her role on Season 2 just had to be ironed out because of “scheduling” conflicts, but then we took a dip on this never-ending emotional rollercoaster once again when co-star Taryn Manning revealed that she hasn’t seen Laura on set.
The cast is currently in the midst of filming the show’s sophomore season, and Taryn shared some additional thoughts on Laura’s rumored departure with the Huffington Post. “Well, there's a book and that character goes to another facility in that book. I'm not sure what’s going on, I definitely feel a bit of a loss, but to be totally honest with you, no one is really talking about it. This cast is so noble.”
The “loss” Taryn is feeling can’t be a good sign for Laura or her character, but Pennsatucky’s portrayer was quick to praise the actress, while also giving us hope that Season 2 won’t be completely Alex-less.
“I think she's amazing,” Taryn continued. “So it'll be interesting without her around, but I don't know the facts — although I hear she will be filming some of this season.”
We’re glad that Laura will likely be around for some of the season since her storyline with Piper is clearly unresolved.
