In Season 4, Episode 3: “Cat’s Cradle,” Caleb goes to talk to Hanna’s dad because Hanna is freaking out about her mom’s involvement in Wilden’s murder (or, at least “A”’s framing of the murder). He tells Tom Marin that he needs to be there for his family. Later in the ep, Papa Marin finds Caleb seemingly walking back to Rosewood. He tells Caleb that he shouldn’t get involved in this mess, to which Caleb resolutely replies: “I love your daughter, Mr. Marin.” To which we swooned. Even though Hanna isn’t in these scenes, watching Caleb try to help Hanna in anyway he can and confess his love for Hanna to her dad was still one of our favorite Haleb scenes of the season.
Caleb Covers For Hanna’s Mom in “Face Time”
In Season 4, Episode 4: “Face Time,” Detectives Holbrook and Tanner show up at the Marin residence to talk to Hanna’s mom. Hanna tries to lie to them and say Ashley Marin isn’t home, but they note her car in the driveway. Caleb backs Hanna up, telling them that he drove the car over because he was looking at a busted-up speaker. Once the detectives are safely back through the door, Hanna hugs Caleb. We love this scene because it shows how far Caleb is willing to go for Hanna. He’ll do anything to protect her — and her mom. And he’s always available for a hug.
Caleb Tries to Talk to Hanna After She’s Arrested in “Under the Gun”
Caleb is understandably worried about Hanna after she’s caught trying to bury the Wilden murder weapon in the woods near Cicero College. He bursts into the Marin house to make sure she’s okay, but Hanna’s dad asks him to leave. He doesn’t listen — he is more concerned with Hanna’s wishes than her dad’s. But when Ashley Marin asks him to leave, he agrees. Hanna still manages to sneak a letter to Caleb through Emily, though. Nothing can keep these two apart for long! (Right, Ravenswood?... Right?!)
Caleb Comforts Hanna in “Crash and Burn, Girl”
Caleb takes his helping up to the next level in Season 4, Episode 7: “Crash and Burn, Girl” when he and Toby team up to find evidence to clear Ashley Marin’s name. Though this keeps him away from Hanna, he reassures her over the phone, telling her that letting her into his life was the smartest thing he’s ever done. “You are not going to lose me. I promise, okay?” he continues, breaking our spoiler-tainted hearts a little. “As soon as I find something to help get these murder charges off of her back, I’ll be right there beside you.” Love!
Hanna Catches Caleb in “The Mirror Has Three Faces”
In Season 4, Episode 10: “The Mirror Has Three Faces,” Caleb makes the drastic decision to tell Veronica Hastings everything about “A.” Hanna catches him before he can go through with it, upset that he would go behind her back. He tells her, teary-eyed: “I would rather you hate me and be safe, then the other way around. This enemy is everywhere and nowhere at the same time. I keep taking swings in the dark and I’m missing. I’m just not enough to keep you safe anymore.” Hanna insists that he is enough, and the two kiss. Even knowing that Wren is creepily spying on the two isn’t enough to ruin this moment for us.
