How Did Jared Leto Get Down to (Yikes) 114 Pounds For AIDS Role?
Matthew McConaughey got a lot of attention for dropping 30 pounds to reach his "absolute lowest weight" to play an AIDS patient in Dallas Buyers Club, but what about his co-star Jared Leto?
Dallas is musician Jared's first film in five years, and TheWrap said it premiered to raves at the Toronto Film Festival. But dramatic weight loss always makes headlines, so Jared talked to TheWrap about his physical transformation. He lost about 40 pounds to play a trannsexual with AIDS, dropping down to 114 pounds. (He's reportedly 5'9" tall.)
How did the now 41-year-old My So-Called Life alum lose the weight? No special secret here. “I stopped eating,” Jared said. "It wasn’t an easy thing to do." He said losing all that weight "changes the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you think."
Losing a lot of weight doesn't automatically make you an Oscar frontrunner, but that kind of commitment does get attention. Both Matthew and Jared reportedly do great work in the film and may be mentioned again when Academy Award nominations come out in January.
Would you ever lose 30-40 lbs. for a role? It must mess up your system for a long time...
