Sara Gilbert Realized She Was Gay While Dating Co-Star Johnny Galecki

Everyone deserves a friend like Johnny Galecki! Sara Gilbert just shared a “secret” story about her sexuality on The Talk, and it starts with her "super sweet" and very supportive Roseanne co-star.

Sara and Johnny, now both 38, dated while acting on the show together through the mid-to-late '90s. But during that time, Sara realized something was off. "I thought he was super cute and I had a total crush on him," Sara said (via People). "And we started dating and he would come over and we would, like, make out, and then I would start to get depressed."

Johnny was understandably offended, and when Sara realized that, she "eventually told him I thought it was about my sexuality and he was super sweet about it."

After that, Sara said she started dating a woman who was much older and also in the public eye, and no one found out about it. Johnny held on to her secret for years. The whole time, Sara was scared that the truth could come out and ruin her career.

Many years later, she called her friend Johnny — who later dated his The Big Bang Theory co-star Kaley Cuoco — and asked him if it was OK to share this story during The Talk’s “secret” week. He told her of course, that he loved her and was so proud of her. He even offered to be there to hold her hand!

Now Sara is happily engaged to girlfriend Linda Perry, with Linda popping the question in a "magical and amazing" moment in early April.

It's always brave of anyone to share a personal story, especially when it comes to the still-polarizing topic of sexual orientation. But everything in life would be a lot easier to bear if we had our own Johnny Galeckis at our side! He sounds like a good egg.
